The Game in 30 Seconds
Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. It is played on a court roughly the size of a doubles badminton court, with a slightly modified tennis net. Simple to pick up in 10 minutes, addictively fun, and the fastest-growing sport in the world by participation.
Court Setup
13.4m × 6.1m (44ft × 20ft), same dimensions as a doubles badminton court
Net height 86cm at the centre and 91cm at the posts
The "kitchen" (non-volley zone) extends 7 ft from the net on each side
Played as singles or doubles, with doubles being the most popular format
Scoring Format
The first side to 11 points wins; you must win by 2.
Only the serving side scores points.
The server calls the score before each serve
Tournament games may go to 15 or 21 points
Essential Rules
Serve underhand and diagonally, with both feet behind the baseline.
Two-bounce rule: after the serve, the receiving side must let the serve bounce, and the serving side must let the return bounce before either side can volley.
No volleys in the kitchen; you cannot strike the ball out of the air while standing inside the non-volley zone.
Common faults include serving into the kitchen, stepping into the kitchen on a volley, or the ball landing out of bounds.
In doubles, partners switch sides only after their team scores a point.
